United Kingdom – Algorithmic Transparency Standard

United Kingdom – Algorithmic Transparency Standard

On 29 November 2021, the UK's Central Digital and Data Office (CDDO) published the Algorithmic Transparency Standard. This standard is part of the UK's National Data Strategy. The importance of transparency is also emphasised in the National AI Strategy. The Algorithmic Transparency Standard helps government agencies and organisations working in the public sector provide clear information about the algorithmic tools they use, and why.

What: Policy orienting document

Impact score: 2

For who: organisations in the public sector, policy makers, companies and sectoral organisations

Key takeaway for Flanders

The Algorithmic Transparency Standard could potentially also be used by Flemish government agencies. By using a similar template, Flemish government agencies and organisations contribute to more transparency about their use of algorithms in decision-making. In this way, they are also helping to manage the risks of algorithmic decision-making.
