United Kingdom – Government response to the call for views on artificial intelligence and intellectual property
The United Kingdom’s Intellectual Property Office conducted a public consultation, asking stakeholders to respond to several questions about the impact AI might have on current intellectual property law. The consultation covered a wide range of topics, from intellectual property protection of AI technology to potential infringement of intellectual property rights by AI systems. The British government then published a response to the consultation’s findings. Two proposals stand out: the British government plans to assess the feasibility of a deposit system for training data that must be disclosed in a patent application, and it is considering legislative changes to allow fully AI-generated inventions to be patentable.
