Are you focussing on the ethical, legal and societal aspects of AI and data-driven technologies in your work? Would you like to discuss this with other professionals and learn from peers? Then the learning community ‘AI and ethics in practice’ of the Knowledge Centre Data & Society might be exactly what you are looking for!

We want to bring together professionals from different organisations who are working on making AI and data-driven applications more responsible. We aim to foster ethical debate in innovation, connect our knowledge and experience, and collect and share know-how on how to do ethics in AI and data-driven processes. We hope to improve the profession of doing ethics in practice in general.

The aim of this learning community is to create an environment where professionals that work in the field of ethics in innovation can share their knowledge and learn from each other. The focus is specifically on implementation and action of ethical practices of AI and data-driven technologies.

The Learning Community focuses specifically on the application of ethics and social issues in the context of the development, implementation and use of data and AI applications. We therefore focus specifically on professionals who are in practice, in their daily work, dealing with the ethical issues surrounding data & AI.

The learning community will meet around four times per year to discuss how to implement ethics in an organisation or in an innovation project. This can range from practicalities such as having ethical codes, (brainstorm or design) tools or principles, to educating colleagues, raising awareness and starting discussions about ethical implications of projects. Any member can propose discussion topics or volunteer to share a case, method or topic. In addition, we will facilitate a closed online environment where the members can chat, discuss and share their issues and solutions throughout the year.

The Knowledge Centre is the initiator and facilitator of this community. We aim to create a trusted space to share best practices and lessons learned. In order to do so, we’ve created a small set of ground rules which we expect the members to follow:

• We want to create an open culture where members feel free to share their mistakes
• We expect members to contribute to the discussions and the community
• We use the Chatham House Rules for meetings and meeting notes
• We will document and share best practices and cases, always in consultation with the members who it concerns
• In case a member does not adhere to these rules, we hold the right to withhold access to the learning community.
