The EU AI Act in 6 steps

The EU AI Act can be a complex and confusing regulation to understand. The Knowledge Centre Data & Society therefore created a tool that allows organisations to evaluate major points of attention under the regulation. It enables organisations to identify what kind of AI system (AIS) or model (AIM) they are working with, whether it falls within the scope of the AI Act, and what their respective role(s) and obligations may be.

In 6 steps you can determine which rules apply to an AI-related project. It allows you to make a first analysis of the potential impact of the AI Act.

The tool

The tool consists of 6 steps:

  1. Is the system prohibited under the AI Act?
  2. Is the system a high-risk system (type 1 / type 2)?
  3. Do any additional transparency requirements apply?
  4. Is it an AI system / model or GPAIM (General-Purpose AI Model)?
  5. Who is who in the EU AI Act?
  6. What corresponding obligations apply?

For each of the 6 steps, the tool guides you in answering the questions mentioned above. This enables you to make an first assessment of the potential impact of the EU AI Act on your project.
