How should we organise supervision on AI in Belgium? (EN)

Peggy Valcke is Executive Board Member at BIPT, where she heads the Legal Service, HR and NetSec departments. She is also part-time Full Professor of Law & ICT at KU Leuven (imec-CiTiP) and member of Leuven.AI. Her main areas of expertise cover media and communications, data protection and data governance, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. She is head of the Belgian delegation in CAI, the Council of Europe’s Committee on AI which prepared and negotiated the Framework Convention on AI, and previously served as Vice-Chair of CAI’s predecessor, CAHAI. She was one of the founding co-directors of the KDM until she joined BIPT in January 2024.
Simon Verschaeren is a policy advisor on Digital Transition at the Department of Work, Economy, Science and Innovation within the Flemish Government. Over the past five years, he has played a key role in initiatives from the Flemish AI Policy Plan, including the establishment of the Knowledge Centre for Data & Society, the citizen science program ‘amai!’, and the Flemish AI Academy. In addition, he oversees Flanders' engagement with the Digital Europe Programme.
Jessica Godoy Chaparro is a legal expert (attaché) in the Digital Economy department of the Federal Public Service Economy. As part of the team coordinating the AI Act implementation in Belgium, she works on various topics such as the national governance structure and AI regulatory sandboxes. In this role, she also coordinates the Belgian nomination within the AI Board (sub-groups) and represents the country in numerous EU-meetings regarding AI policy. Prior to this, she was involved in the preparation of the Belgian position during the negotiations of the act and during the trilogues that were finalized during the Belgian presidency of the Council of the EU.
