Working template for instructions for use in accordance with Article 13 AI Act
This working template provides a valuable guide for providers and deployers of high-risk AI systems when drafting or reviewing instructions for use, as mandated under Article 13 of the AI Act.
The template was developed by the Knowledge Centre Data & Society, as a result of a policy prototyping exercise on the transparency requirements in the AI Act. During this exercise, the obligation on providers of high-risk AI systems to draft instructions for use was tested in practice and evaluated.
With this template, the Knowledge Centre Data & Society aims to provide greater insight into the essential elements that must be included in the instructions for use, as well as providing an example of what instructions for use could look like. This not only helps providers and deployers to meet or review the legal requirements but also offers practical cues to simplify the process' complexity.
Use of the template
The template must be further completed by the provider with specific information about the high-risk AI system, ensuring that the instructions for use are accurately tailored to the unique purpose, characteristics and risk profile of the system in question. A deployer can use this template to review provided instructions for use so it can ask for clarification if required.
The template contains additional practical instructions.
The provider is also advised to check whether any additional guidelines regarding Article 13 of the AI Act have been published by competent authorities.
